Why is good insulation important?
In today's construction industry, future-proof insulation is the norm. As well as contributing to a comfortable indoor temperature, good insulation is also important for keeping energy consumption down, which in turn contributes to lower heating costs. In other words, a high-quality insulation material is good for both the environment and your wallet.
What laws and regulations apply to thermal insulation?
The Hungarian National Board of Housing, Building and Planning sets requirements for the degree of insulation. To determine the degree of insulation, you need to calculate the average heat transfer coefficient (Um). You start by finding out the U-value of each building element and then multiplying the resulting value by the area of the building element. In the next step, you add up all the values for all the building elements together with the sum of the building's thermal bridges, and finally divide the resulting value by the building's enveloping area (Aom). The unit for Um is W/m2K.
Achieving a more comfortable living environment
The requirements for an approved sound insulation are lower than for thermal insulation, but this does not mean that sound insulation is less important and can be crucial for a resident's comfort in their home. Good sound insulation reduces the risk of neighbours being disturbed by each other or of disturbing noise from outside the home having a negative impact.
XPS-insulation
A popular insulation material that is 100% recyclable. It has outstanding energy efficiency, is moisture resistant and has high compressive strength. It is also suitable as insulation for inverted roofs.
EPS insulation
Also known as Styrofoam insulation, it is a lightweight material that is safe to handle and available with different compressive strengths. It is also easy to recycle.
PIR insulation
A material with a very low lambda value and high thermal resistance. PIR is lightweight and only a thin layer is needed to achieve excellent thermal insulation. Perfect for thin walls!
Mineral wool
A cheap insulation material made from glass or rock wool. A popular building insulation that is both moisture-proof and non-combustible and, with its porous structure, also serves as sound insulation.
Insulation for circular construction
The basis of circular construction is that all building materials must have a traceable origin, down to the smallest components. After use, the material must be separable to be reused in the production cycle. This also applies to insulation materials, although not all insulation materials are suitable for circular construction. One material that fulfils all requirements is XPS, which is produced using a climate-friendly CO2 technology and can be fully recycled at the end of its life.
